ABOUT
Erin R. Johnson is a Postdoctoral Fellow at Indiana University, Bloomington, where she contributes to the Abortion Attitudes Project. She received her PhD in Sociology from the University of California San Francisco, and her MPH from the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. Her research, which broadly seeks to understand how stigma affects access to care, falls under two themes: reproductive health social movements and sexual and reproductive healthcare access and experiences. Within these themes, she seek to apply and extend sociological theories of social movements; understand gendered experiences of health, illness, and interaction with the healthcare system; and intervene to improve sexual and reproductive healthcare access and experience. Dr. Johnson's research is driven by principles of equity and justice, as well as a deep understanding of the ways that policy decisions, provider actions, and socio-cultural pressures constrain the ability of people capable of pregnancy to make decisions about managing their fertility, affecting their overall health and wellbeing and their choices about the future. Dr. Johnson has published work in highly rated sociology and public health journals including Contraception, Feminist Economics, JMIR Public Health Surveillance, SSM – Population Health, Psychological Assessment, and Translational Behavioral Medicine.
